There was & is only one RAHUL DRAVID

From 9 March 2012, Indian cricket will not be the same again. One of the most reliable, most consistent batsmen of the golden era of Indian cricket will not step on the cricket ground again.
Rahul Dravid, the finest warrior of Indian cricket, who has given so much to the cricket fans all over the world has decided to call it a day. The way he has managed to stay out of the limelight even when focus was fully on him is simply amazing.

If Indian Cricket is an Indian family, then Rahul Dravid has always played a role of a selfless mother, who is spotted only when there is a failure. He has always gone about his job without the credit it deserved. He has always been there in the time of crisis & most of the times managed to resolve the crisis. The most striking quality of this man is his humility.

His debut overshadowed by Ganguly's century. His knock at Kolkata overshadowed by Laxman. His highest score against Pakistan by India's series victory against Pakistan. His innings at Adelaide against Australia in 2004 overshadowed by India leveling the series in Australia. Like these, there were numerous occasions in One Day Cricket as well.

The cliche "Statistics never give you the full story" suits absolutely fine for Rahul Dravid. His scores will never tell the pressure he has managed to soak up, the expectations he had to meet from his teammates, the additional workload which his keeping put on him to give balance to the 2003 World cup team, the burden which he shared while playing along with some of the greats in Indian Team, the mental preparation he has put when he went out to bat in the second over.

One of the old school cricketer, who was willing to put the costliest price on his wicket. He was easily the batsman-of-first-of 2000 for India & certainly one of the leading batsman in the world during the decade. Rahul Dravid, it does not matter to us that you have not performed as per your high standards one odd series or even odd season. What you have given us during your career is far more valuable than anything else. You were one of the primary reason why India started to win abroad & started winning consistently. You are the role model who should be emulated for patience, work ethics & humility. You have certainly made whole India proud & the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar himself have paid the highest compliment for you

"THERE WAS & IS ONLY ONE RAHUL DRAVID".
